So much so, in fact, that they almost become an extension of their body - something that just feels right and is missed when not there. Guitar lovers may have several guitars of varying sizes and styles, but usually only one is their favorite. My brother is a dedicated guitar player - has been since his early teens. These days he keeps as many as ten guitars in his "man cave," but only one acoustic is his fav.

Many guitar owners like to customize their best instrument with something special. Guitar inlays are a great way to do just that. There are many inlay artists on the Web, but one I know for sure can handle any job, any image, any project is Aaron over at VanWhy Inlay & Design. Seriously, this guy can do anything you ask, on any piece of wood you want. His specialty is guitar inlays, but he'll even inlay your great-great grandmother's old, antique jewelry box.

If you're looking for a way to give your baby a new look, check Aaron's gallery on the website. If you decide to give him a try, be sure to tell him you found him here!

I like to fancy myself as a logo design expert, but really I'm not. If designing a logo entails more than manipulating an already-created piece of clipart, I'm clueless. It's fun, but when it comes right down to it, serious logo design requires a special talent and an expert in the field. When I want a truly unique logo, I always turn to Pike Graphics.

Owned and operated by Tim Halldin, Pike Graphics started out serving local customers in Mankato, MN. Now, logo design in Mankato has a reach that spans the world over, and with good reason. Tim is such a nice guy to work with and really knows his stuff when it comes to logo development and implementation. The creativity that comes out of Pike Graphics is amazing - you're always guaranteed a one-of-a-kind, accurate representation of your company, wrapped up in one great-looking logo.

When Pike Graphics creates a logo for a customer, a lot of thought goes into it's design. The goal is to design a logo that sets that company apart from their competition and really capture the essence of the business's products and services. However, there's more to it than just making a great logo.

Pike Graphics also makes sure the logo will work for any purpose. Whether customers need it for online promotion or printed materials, they always receive the design in several formats so it always looks perfect anywhere. In addition, customers have full rights to that logo. Many other graphic design companies retain rights to the logos they design. This limits the use of the logo drastically. With a logo from Pike Graphics, customers are free to use it as they please.

While I still enjoy making my own logos for certain things, the really important ones I trust to Pike Graphics. With over 25 years experience in the field, no one else is better equipped to fully capture my ideas and make them come to life through graphic design.

For logo design in Mankato, or anywhere else in the world, visit Pike Graphics and tell them Shawn sent you. You won't be sorry. :)
Many residents in North Carolina are no different and that's where a reputable health insurance agent in nc can help. It's okay to be confused. Trust me - you're not alone. However, it's not okay to ignore the facts or go without health insurance just because you don't understand the laws. Before you run into legal issues - or worse - medical problems that aren't covered by health insurance, be sure to get the facts from someone who knows.

Whether you live in NC or somewhere else, contact your local agent and get answers and advice about your health insurance rights. Make sure you're covered no matter what.
It was a Chevy Blazer, and it was the first brand new vehicle Mike and I owned together.

We had only had the vehicle for a week when it already had a scratch and the passenger side floor was stained. It's a funny story really.

Since it was a new vehicle and Mike wasn't used to driving it there was a learning curve that Mike apparently wasn't aware of. As he was backing it up to hook on the boat trailer, he misjudged a little bit and backed our brand-new blazer right into the tongue of the boat trailer. The resulting scratch was still visible 13 years later when we finally sent the vehicle to the great junkyard in the sky.

As for the stain in the passenger side floor board, that was my fault. Back in those days, coffee bought at the gas station came in Styrofoam cups. We were driving along enjoying the day as I sipped my coffee. I took a big old swig and felt something floating around in my mouth. My immediate reaction was to spew everything in my mouth into the floor of the car.

Mike's immediate reaction was to yell at me, "What the hell did you do that for?!" His eyes were bugging out of his head and I swear he was about to drive off the road, although I don't know what he was so upset about since he had just rammed the boat trailer the day before.

"I thought there was a bug in my coffee," I said looking guilty.

Turns out, it wasn't a bug after all. It was just a stray piece of Styrofoam that apparently had been in the cup before I filled it. Go figure.

So, that's how we began with our very first brand-new car. Now 13 years later we have another new vehicle that so far we've manage not to damage yet. I'd better go knock on some wood, don't you think?
Why, with the GoConnect App, of course!

With the GoConnect app, real estate agents can create to-do lists and get things done quickly. Schedule appointments and keep them with friendly reminders on your cell. The beauty of this app is that it's simple. No cumbersome features that you have to figure out - just plain, simple task management functions created by agents for agents.

I looked over the GoConnect website and I have to say, I'm kind of impressed. This little app helps you keep track of everything from scheduling inspections to sending welcome emails - you'll never miss an appointment or forget to do something again.

I'm no real estate agent, but a real estate app like this one makes me wish I was just so I could use it. I wonder if this baby would help organize other careers, too?
I'm a Grandma!

Who'd a thunk it? At the ripe old age of 42, my oldest has made me a grandma.

It was a surprise, but not really so. I mean, when two young kids spend all their time doing the wild thing, it's bound to happen. The surprising part, though, was the fact that she was already four months along before they even knew she was pregnant. Such a thin girl, that one.

Anywho, they told us by giving us small gifts to open. My gift was a onesie and a package of pacifiers. I was the first to open my gift and it took a minute to register what the hell they were giving me. Seriously, I opened the package and sat there, not comprehending what I was looking at. When it finally dawned on me, a flood of emotions ran through my head in a matter of seconds. It was a very confusing moment for me, to say the least.

Once I got my shit together, it was a happy moment, and now we have little Jace. He's a doll, let me tell you. And, lucky me - I'm the designated babysitter for the little guy while his parents are at work. A blessing and a curse, I wouldn't trade it for anything because I know I'll be THE granny, and that's alright by me.
Reproducing and amplifying the voice for perfect sound quality, this little gem is a must-have for anyone who wishes their voice to be heard. I'm guessing it would be a great addition for those singing in seedy bars and nightclubs to get their songs heard over the crowds of people who show up to hear you sing.

You know, I'd buy one for myself, but the family has already told me not to quit my day job. I'm not entirely sure why they say that because I have the voice of an angel.

No, really I do. It brings tears to the eyes of everyone who's ever heard me sing. :)
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4778448286778242488.post-11561610863457442752013-12-24T06:39:00.003-06:002013-12-24T06:39:57.267-06:00The Magic that is ChristmasNow that my kids are older (14 and 16 and one out of the house), Christmas just doesn't hold the same "magic" that it used to when they were little. Sure, things are much easier now - they don't care if the gifts are wrapped and I don't have to go out of my way to sneak the gifts under the tree anymore, but man, I kind of miss it.

This year, I ordered a few things online and as soon as they came in the mail, the kids were asking if they could go ahead and "open" their presents. Open being the operative word here because I hadn't even wrapped them yet. I held out as long as I could, but finally gave in last night and let them have their gifts - unwrapped. Although the kids were extremely happy, I still feel let down this morning.

There was no anticipation, no fun in watching them rip open the colorful paper to discover what's inside, nothing. Just, "Here you go. Have fun."

Next year, we're doing it differently. I'm not going to give in to their constant demands to open gifts early. I'm going to wrap every single present and place it under the tree days ahead of time, just so everyone can see them. We will wait until Christmas morning to open said gifts and have hot cocoa and listen to Christmas music.

OK, so that sounds like a plan. Now, what do I do with myself now that the holiday festivities are over before the holiday really even began?

It's true! Even though I've been married for 17 years, and love, love, love my own wedding band, I really enjoy looking at them online. I've never actually told Mike I'd like a new one, but I'd surely NOT turn one down if he bought me one.

One of the sites I like to browse is Reeds. I'm partial to white gold, and the rings on here are absolutely gorgeous! One of my favorites is this one.

Isn't it fabulous?! Mike is a little less inclined to agree with me once he sees the price tag, but whatever. A girl can dream, can't she?

As I was browsing Facebook this morning, I came across this post and it got me thinking, "How would I handle this situation?" I'm forever telling anyone and everyone my thoughts on what's wrong with the world today, and this is a fine example. Kids today feel a sense of entitlement and it makes me sad. I don't know if this is true or not (I didn't take the time to find out), but regardless, it got me wondering how I'd handle it.

My first thoughts were that I'd be hurt. It's hard for me to imagine my kids saying something like this on Facebook or anywhere. It would break my heart.

Then, my next thought was, I'd be mad as hell - so mad in fact, I probably wouldn't have been able to write such a sad reply to his post. As one commentor says,

"How true is this? I only ask because if one of my kids pulled this shit, I don't think I'd be able to control my anger long enough to write a sweetly articulate little comment like that. I'd be too busy taking every single thing my kid enjoys and setting it on fire (only to later regret it and wish I'd held a garage sale)."

That sounds about right to me. But would I really? I don't know. I hope I never have to find out because I think more than anything, I'd be devastated.

How would you feel and how do you think you'd handle a situation like this?
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4778448286778242488.post-59585015014406035332013-06-11T12:31:00.001-05:002013-06-11T12:31:58.297-05:00Why you should have GPS Navigation on your Boat

Mariners have navigated the waterways of the world for centuries without the use of GPS navigation. However, since its invention, GPS navigation systems have made boating much safer and more efficient. Here are some valid reasons to have a GPS on your boat, whether you're strictly a pleasure-cruiser, a fisherman, or boating is your livelihood.

1. GPS navigation is safer. When you have a GPS aboard your boat, you can mark important locations (waypoints) and navigate back to them no matter where you are. This comes in handy on lakes like Lake Michigan where fog and poor weather roll in quickly and visibility is poor. On larger bodies of water where it's easy to get turned around, GPS can safely guide you in the right direction, even if you get lost.

2. It's easy for others to find you in an emergency. Since GPS uses orbiting satellites to pinpoint your location in latitude and longitude, should you get stranded on the lake or ocean, you are able to convey your exact location within just a few feet so rescue can find you easily. This is an invaluable feature should your boat experience engine failure or you begin taking on water and need help quickly.

3. GPS can act as a security device. Theft is a problem in marinas where boats stay in the water for months at a time. If your boat is equipped with a GPS navigation system, it might have a feature that allows you to track its whereabouts and alert you via text or phone call if the boat moves from its dock without your knowledge. Just like a home security system, this feature must be armed and disarmed each time you leave the boat or return for a trip out of the harbor.

While boaters have safely navigated bodies of water without GPS in the past, there's no denying it has become a very important tool today. There are several different models to choose from including handheld, portable devices and permanent, hard-installed versions, so there's something for every boater's needs.

.....busy making DIY jewelry!

I am hooked. I can't stop making it. I have way too much, but I don't care. It's like.....like Christmas each time I make a new piece. It's safe to say all the women in my family are getting my homemade jewelry for their birthdays and Christmas this year. Who knows? Maybe the men will, too. I don't care if they don't like it. If I give it away, I can make more!

MUAHAHAHAHA........

Seriously, though. Isn't this gorgeous?

It's my favorite. It reminds me of those candy necklaces I used to wear as a kid. I had a permanent colored ring around my neck one summer from those things; man I loved them so!

So, I'll be making my own rendition of these necklaces soon. I have to pick up some clay and figure out where to hide my beads until they dry, but once I finish the necklace, I'll post pictures. I'm so excited!

If someone can make me laugh til I pee my pants, we'll be friends for life. I spend a great deal of time scouring the web (mostly Facebook) looking for funny things. Just recently, I came across a page that makes me laugh with every post. It's called Ensuing Insanity. The page is new, only been around since March 15th, but I can tell it's going to be a hoot. I talked with the owner and said I would spread the word because it's no secret the world needs to laugh more.

So, if you're in the mood to laugh, and even if you're not (you will after visiting this page), head on over to https://www.facebook.com/EnsuingInsanity and "like" the page. This is going to be one heck of a good time!
I'm telling you this because it gives you an idea of the age group most of my friends are in, and even though they say a lady never reveals her true age, I'm probably not that much of a lady.

But, anyway.....

I just received news that my best friend of twenty-something years is having another baby. Say what?

Alright, so they (she and her husband) only have one child. He's seven or eight at this point (that's terrible that I don't actually know!) and they've struggled for years to have another one. She's only a year younger than me, and I distinctly remember her telling me several months ago that if it didn't happen by XYZ date, they were going to quit trying.

Apparently, they didn't quit and lo and behold, she's pregnant - at the ripe old age of 40. Will she name me godmother again? Will I be picked to babysit again because I work from home and obviously have nothing better to do? Will I have to go shopping for baby gifts again? I wonder if she still has that beautiful, soft blue blanket I gave her for the first child?

All kidding and selfishness aside, I AM happy for them. They have struggled and met with disappointment so much in their quest to have a family. It's good that things finally went their way for a change. Of course, I did offer to give her one of my children to ease her pain over the years, but for some reason, she turned me down.

This is going to be a rant, so if you're having a particularly bad day, or just don't want to hear my bitching, click away. Don't read this post because I may or may not say some things that offend or otherwise create controversy. If controversial subject matter excites you, read on.

Over the weekend, I went to Walmart to pick up Rebecca's meds. Of course, I waited until she was almost out and needed them - OK, she had two day's worth left, but that's beside the point. When I got to the pharmacy, they informed me that my insurance cards had expired (I knew this, but hadn't received new cards yet) and that if I wanted the pills, I had to pay almost $400!

Um...no thank you. I told them I'd call the insurance company and come back.

So, I came home, and tried calling. Of course, because it was Saturday, they were closed. I waited until this morning to call them back.

So, I'm on the phone with a very nice lady from the insurance company, who by the way was SUPER helpful (you don't get that very often anymore!), and we get it all worked out. She gets me the information I need, so I call Walmart to give it to them.

Well, if it isn't bad enough that our insurance premiums went WAY up as of February 1st, now, our co-pays for prescriptions have gone way up, too. We are paying over $100 more a month for health insurance, and Rebecca's meds (she's on four!) are more expensive, too.

Granted, I'm not paying the $400 originally quoted to me without insurance, but still. All together, her pills will cost at least $200 for a month; and that's WITH insurance! I say "at least" because I really have no idea what the other two will cost.

I guess I'm just frustrated because the price of everything just keeps going up and up, but nobody's making any more money to compensate. I don't claim to understand health insurance, politics or algebra, but the part I do understand is that my wallet is getting thinner and thinner, and God forbid anyone should get seriously ill or have an accident: you might as well just kiss your hiney goodbye. Someone's screwing the middle-class, and it's not even fun.
Even in the summer, I tend to stray away from the sun because I don't like how dry my skin gets, but I do like the color my skin turns with a tan. I've used self tanners over the years, but have never really found one that gave me the same "natural-looking" tan the sun gives, so usually I just do without......until now!

Living in Wisconsin isn't kind to the skin, especially in the winter. The air is dry and cold, and the sun hardly ever shines. My skin is a pasty white that borders on florescent at this point, so I decided to try another self tanner. Instead of heading out to Walmart (like I usually do), I went online. I found an awesome tanner from the makers of Jane Iredale by the name of Tantasia that's absolutely wonderful! Not only does it give my skin a natural-looking tan, it makes it soft, too! I've had people ask me if I go tanning. HA!

It's kind of funny because if anyone knows me at all, they know I despise tanning. It's a waste of time in my book, so this is perfect. Takes me literally two minutes to apply and after a few applications, I've got a tan people who use tanning beds pay out the nose for.

I even found a video that shows how to apply Tantasia.
One random winner will receive their pick from the children's book collection here.

All you have to do to enter is have your child (aged 2-6 years) draw a picture and tell you about it. Write a simple sentence underneath and submit the artwork via private message to the Sparrow Early Learning Academy's Facebook page. Once you've done that, make your entry into the drawing by visiting https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sparrow-Early-Learning-Academy/231290256907823?sk=app_228910107186452.
In this day and age, you don't hear too many stories of inspiration. People just aren't as nice as they used to be, and it saddens me. That's why, when I read this story about a blinded naval officer receiving a custom made Martin guitar from the friends and comrades he's entertained for years with his guitar playing, I knew I just had to share.

Navy Lt. Brad Snyder was blinded back in September 2011 when he inadvertently stepped on a bomb while serving in Afghanistan. Before that, he used to entertain his fellow troops around the fire by playing a guitar and teaching them songs. I would imagine his guitar playing had a lot to do with many of those men and women's sanity during that time. After being injured, they wanted to repay him for his kindness and raised over $2,000 and had a guitar custom made for him.

The really cool thing about this guitar is that the Purple Heart he received for his bravery in the military was used to make the guitar special. Using inlay design, the Purple Heart is prominently displayed on the headstock of the guitar. It's absolutely beautiful and in my mind, perfect for this young man who almost gave his life for our country.

If you'd like to read the whole story, you can do so here.
Sickness raged on for most of the month, passing through each member of the family until finally, today, everyone returned to work and school and I got a peaceful day to myself.

Well, peaceful isn't quite the right word. Sure, the kids finally all went back to school and work. Mike returned to work as well, but peaceful? No, the dogs made sure of that.

Every few minutes, and I'm not making this up, the dogs have barked. Sometimes just one, and sometimes all four. They've barked at nothing; they've barked at the mailman. They've barked at the shadows cast by the trees as they blow in the wind. They've woofed. They've yipped. They've full-on snarled and I even heard a small howl out of the little chihuahua's mouth.

I've found myself yelling at them, "Shut up! Just shut up!" I've tried to reason with them, "Please be quiet. Can't you see mommy is working?" I've even tried bribing them with treats. The little ungrateful things ate the treats and then ran to the door to see who or what they could bark at next.

My head is pounding and I can't wait for the kids to get home. I think the dogs have gotten so used to the constant noise and chaos of everyone being home for so long that the silence has them confused. They can hear everything and everything makes them bark.

I need to go downstairs to the basement to start the dryer for another load of laundry. I'm afraid to because I know the turning of the drum is a definite "bark" signal.

I just read a story where two would-be kidnappers, on opposite sides of the country, in the same week, tried to kidnap toddlers right out from under their mothers' noses.

Seriously. Who does that?

I mean, I know kidnappings happen, but these took place with the mothers of the children RIGHT THERE! In one of the instances, the kidnapper tried taking the child right out of her mother's arms. It's insane the lengths these pedophiles go to to nab little kids. Is anyone safe anywhere anymore?

If you want to read the full story, you can do so here.
They're the kind that open in, top and bottom, so you can clean them inside and out without having to drag a ladder out of the garage and almost break your neck on uneven ground to wash the outside.

Yeah, they're that kind. Of course, it doesn't mean they get washed any more than the old windows did. Don't judge me.

Despite how much I love the windows, I swear if the company calls me one more time with an offer of discounted installation for the rest of the house, I'm going to scream. We haven't even paid off these windows yet, and they're already calling to get us to replace the upstairs ones. Everyday, multiple times a day, they call. I've told them nicely that we aren't interested. I've been stern. I've been downright rude, and they still call. What the heck is up with that?

Having said all that however, seriously. If you have the chance to put in replacement windows richmond va, you should do it. The difference in the heating bill is astounding, and they just look so much better!

I feel gypped. Every year at this time, I look forward to the January thaw. We usually get a week of fairly mild weather, with temperatures reaching into the 40's for several days in a row. This year? We got a couple of so-so days with overcast skies, rain, wind and temps in the high 30's. I think there were two whole days where the temperatures managed to climb into the 40's, but there was no sun. Only dreary, gray skies and what? Rain.

Today, we're back to typical Wisconsin weather, where the temps struggle to climb to 20ยบ and again, no sun. I'm really longing for spring. I need sunshine. I need warmth. I NEED to get outside and play!

This spring I'm thinking of starting a greenhouse. Nothing big, mind you, but something I can grow some plants in and give me a reason to be outside. I've been looking at some greenhouse kits and it looks totally doable. When I mentioned to Mike my plan, he just rolled his eyes. I'm not sure what the meant, but roll your eyes all you want, mister, I shall have that greenhouse! Keep rolling those eyes and there will be a sign on the door that says, "NO BOYS ALLOWED!"
For some reason, I have never really had to smack my children that much. I guess it may be because I was smacked on a regular basis when I was a kid - I had the worst smart mouth back then.

I can remember my mom doing this when she was driving. My brother and I in the backseat would scoot as far toward the doors of the car on our opposite sides as we could get and giggle silently as her arm flailed wildly between us. She'd eventually give up, never having touched either of us.

Ah yes, those were the days!

Seems like once I turned 40, my body decided to play "Opposite Day" and change everything I thought I knew about it.

For instance, my skin. It's always been oily - so much so that dry winter air never used to bother it. I never had dry skin; never had to deal with flaking or painfully itchy skin. Tis not the case now, though. This winter has been exceptionally cruel to my skin. There's flaking around my nose, and the skin on my cheeks feels like sandpaper.

So, I bought some Dermalogica Active Moist moisturizer. It's made for oily skin (which I'm not sure that my skin is still considered oily, but whatever), and so far, I like it. It seems to be taking care of the flakiness and my skin no longer feels like it could take the finish off of furniture.

The other thing I noticed sine turning 40 is my hearing - or lack there of. What the heck is going on? I find myself constantly asking, "What?" when someone talks to me. The family is starting to get irritated with repeating themselves to me, and quite frankly, I'm a little miffed myself.

Is there some switch that gets flipped when a woman turns 40? Is it all down hill from here?
