Charles Manson: 12th Parole Hearing

It looks like an end to an era for the Tate family....finally. Charles Manson is scheduled for his 12th parole hearing this year. It's been 40 years since his incarceration, and Debra Tate, the sister of the actress, Sharon Tate, who was murdered by Manson and his followers back in 1969, will be there again to plead for his continued incarceration.

Can you imagine? 40 years. She has been travelling to California every few years for 40 years to make sure that Manson stays in prison where he belongs. It's been her life's work. Something she feels she has to do for her sister and the friends that were tortured and murdered by the cult. This will likely be the last parole hearing she has to attend, though. At 77 years old, Manson may not be up for parole for another 15 years, making him 92.

I suppose at this point, he'd never be able to survive on the outside. He's been in prison for most of his life, and would not know how to be free. Just as well. Even at 77, he's gotten in trouble recently for having homemade weapons in his cell, and has been caught with smuggled cell phones that he's used to talk to his adoring fans.

It just floors me that people are so fascinated by him. They say he receives the most mail of all the prisoners, and still receives many visitors each week. College students who are writing papers on him even request visits with him. Instead of being repulsed by him and his actions, people are intrigued and want to know more. It's confusing to me.
