Untitled

I feel so uninspired today. I think I have gardener's block. Is there such a thing?

I have all this empty space dedicated to a flower garden, packets and packets of seeds, bags of woodchips, live plants, and all these gardening tools, and not an idea one of what to do with it all. I have a picture in my head of what I want my garden to look like when it's finished, but I have no idea where to start.

You know those lush, colorful gardens you see in magazines? The ones that you know convey a feeling of relaxation if you could just walk through them? The ones that make you comment on their beauty and take your breath away? That's what I want.

I need a professional, I think. Anyone know one that will work for a home-cooked meal, because that's all I can afford?

Frost

What month is this, and how far are we into it?

This morning, we woke up to frost. Frost covering everything, making it look like snow on the rooftops. Tulips blooming in the flowerbeds, and frost covering the yard. Unbelievable.

I read another blog today where the author wrote about snow falling outside her window today. What is up with that?

One day I'm out in the garden, planting flowers and pulling weeds. The next, I'm in the house because it's too cold and windy to even think about going out. I thought it was Spring going on Summer?

The weatherman just told me that tonight's low will be in the 30's again. I wonder how many nights of near-freezing temperatures my flowers can take?

Happy Mother's Day to Me

I love Mother's Day! Even though you know your kids love you, they don't always say so. But today, one day out of the year, they go out of their way to show you how much they do.

Last night, after getting money from his grandparents, aunts, and uncles for his birthday, Tristan went to the store and came back with chrysanthemums and dahlias for me. The kids all know how much I love flowers, and these will go in my garden out back.

This morning, we had to go over to Mike's mother's house for lunch. The two youngest were already there, having spent the night there last night. When I got there, they had a beautiful bouquet of flowers for me and a wonderful, handmade card. They picked the flowers out themselves, and bought the ones they did because they "sparkle". "Mom loves sparkles," they said. They're right! I do!

Mike, bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers with bright green dyed flowers highlighted with pinks and whites.

So, I sit here, posting in my blog, surrounded by flowers. They smell wonderful, and make me smile.

Every day should be Mother's Day!

Spring?

Today is April 28th, and believe it or not, it is snowing! Snowing, I tell you! The ground is covered, and it's still poking it down! It's only 31º, and downright cold!

What happened to Spring? My daffodils and tulips say it's Spring, but I don't believe them. They are out there shivering on their stems, covered in a layer of snow, trying to brave the cold.

Timothy actually got his winter coat out of the closet this morning to wear to school. I couldn't convince the other two to wear theirs, though. I bet they're cold. Right now, they are probably thinking that I was right, although I'm sure they'll never admit it.

Grocery Shopping....Alone

I needed a few things from the grocery store yesterday evening. Since my youngest came home sick from school, I couldn't go along. I sent my husband Mike, out with a list of the things I needed. I dread sending him out alone! I get everything I didn't ask for, and nothing I need. Just a side note, grocery shopping has become a family affair since I'm unable to drive myself, but that's another story in and of itself!

So, he goes to the store, and is gone for quite some time. When he finally gets back, he has everything I asked for in addition to a couple of "extras". Some sweets that I won't normally buy and FLOWERS! A little bud vase, a couple of red carnations, some baby's breath, and a red bow. I was so surprised since he doesn't normally think of things like that!

He's really proud of himself, and so am I. He tells me that it took him a while to find everything I asked for, but he got it all. Then he passed the flower cooler and decided to buy me flowers. When he got up to the register to check out, the cashier charged him twice for the flowers! He said she wasn't very friendly, but he tried to explain to her that she was wrong. She insisted that she was right since there were TWO price stickers on the flowers, one hanging from the bow, and one stuck to the vase. Both were marked $8.99.

He knew that was wrong, but said that she was so unfriendly and there were people in line behind him that he didn't pursue it any further. Then he says, "Besides, you're worth it!"

At this point, I'm wondering where the man that left the house went, and who this man was. In awe, and almost crying, I thanked him. The flowers are sitting on top of the entertainment center right now. Every time I look at them, it makes me smile. But it also makes me want to call the grocery store and complain about that rude cashier and get a refund for the overcharge! I know I won't do that, but it does cross my mind.

All I can say is, you gotta love a man that's willing to pay double for flowers!
