Piggly Wiggly

Do you have one in your area?

If you have one, you'll know what I'm talking about. If you don't you'll be like, "What the hell is a Piggly Wiggly?"

Well, Piggly Wiggly is a grocery store around here. And they are awesome! They have a deal with gas stations in their area. Every week, certain products are in their fliers as being "a percentage off per gallon of gas." If you buy any of those products, and you use your Piggly Wiggly card, you accumulate "Pig Points" that you can use at local gas stations to save on gas.

Last night, Mike and I went grocery shopping and accumulated a $.57 per gallon savings! That means we save $.57 a gallon up to fifteen gallons of gas! And if we don't use it, it accumulates until you do use it! A guy Mike works with actually got fifteen gallons of gas for only $.14 a gallon!

My theory is, if an item is in the flier, and I know we'll eat it, I'll buy it to save money on the gas. I won't buy things I wouldn't normally buy, of course, but if there's a chance we'll use it, I buy it.

Check the fliers! You'll be surprised at how much you can save on gas just by buying groceries!

Grocery Shopping....Alone

I needed a few things from the grocery store yesterday evening. Since my youngest came home sick from school, I couldn't go along. I sent my husband Mike, out with a list of the things I needed. I dread sending him out alone! I get everything I didn't ask for, and nothing I need. Just a side note, grocery shopping has become a family affair since I'm unable to drive myself, but that's another story in and of itself!

So, he goes to the store, and is gone for quite some time. When he finally gets back, he has everything I asked for in addition to a couple of "extras". Some sweets that I won't normally buy and FLOWERS! A little bud vase, a couple of red carnations, some baby's breath, and a red bow. I was so surprised since he doesn't normally think of things like that!

He's really proud of himself, and so am I. He tells me that it took him a while to find everything I asked for, but he got it all. Then he passed the flower cooler and decided to buy me flowers. When he got up to the register to check out, the cashier charged him twice for the flowers! He said she wasn't very friendly, but he tried to explain to her that she was wrong. She insisted that she was right since there were TWO price stickers on the flowers, one hanging from the bow, and one stuck to the vase. Both were marked $8.99.

He knew that was wrong, but said that she was so unfriendly and there were people in line behind him that he didn't pursue it any further. Then he says, "Besides, you're worth it!"

At this point, I'm wondering where the man that left the house went, and who this man was. In awe, and almost crying, I thanked him. The flowers are sitting on top of the entertainment center right now. Every time I look at them, it makes me smile. But it also makes me want to call the grocery store and complain about that rude cashier and get a refund for the overcharge! I know I won't do that, but it does cross my mind.

All I can say is, you gotta love a man that's willing to pay double for flowers!
