Because I'm not a procrastinator....
What? Why are you looking at me like that?
I'm not a procrastinator. Or, at least I try not to be.
Alright, alright. I do usually put things off to the last minute, but I'm turning over a new leaf this year.
No, really. I am.
I've decided that for all my girly-girl nieces, I'm going to make them homemade stuffed animals for Christmas. Well, at least I'm going to try. What with the poor eyesight and all, it may not work out, but I'm going to give it a whirl. I found this cute pattern for making felted stuffed animals, and I was thinking about personalizing them somehow.
You know, special colors and maybe their names on them.
They could even be used I suppose as monogrammed baby gifts too, since they don't have any eyes and such. They'd be safe for baby.
All of my nieces love stuffed animals, so I think this will be a good gift idea.
Stop looking at me that way. I'll get it done.

Why Rush?
I went to a friend's friend's baby shower with her over the weekend. She didn't want to go along, and well, who doesn't like a good baby shower? The mother got tons of gifts. You'd swear the guests all got together and robbed a baby store or something. She'll never want or need for anything for at least 6 months, if not longer.
One of the things I noticed was that she was obviously having a boy. Everything was blue, right down to the horrendous punch made with all sorts of blue drinks and sherbert. It was pretty, but man, was it terrible!
The next thing that I noticed while she was opening gifts is that some people got her monogrammed baby gifts already. I was like, "what if the baby turns out to be a girl?" I know those gifts aren't cheap to have personalized, and that would be such a waste. I suppose she could give the baby a girl's name to match the ones that were only initials, but what about the ones that had full boy's names printed on them? And believe me, she got quite a few gifts that were personalized.
I know doctors nowadays can be pretty accurate with these things, but still. I don't trust them completely. Mother Nature could be having a good day and decide to play a prank on you. Then what. You have a girl using a blanket monogrammed with 'Bill.'

Wishing For Old Times
Tristan's birthday came and went yesterday. His 19th birthday.
It's hard to believe he could be 19. I mean, it was just recently that I held him in my arms and changed his diaper, wasn't it?
Time sure flies.....
I spent the day remembering. He wasn't here to remember with me. He was at school. In another state. I went through some of his old things. You know the stuff if you're a mom. Old baby clothes with spit-up stains on the front. Favorite toys. Monogrammed baby gifts received from special family and friends. It was a bittersweet day, torn between missing the old days and being proud of who he's become.
Talking to him did little to ease my longing, as all he talked about was adult things that he's doing now and will be doing in the future. I would so love for him to need his mommy just a little bit again.

Sitting Here Wondering......
I'm just sitting here, wondering what in the world I'm supposed to get a pregnant woman who already has everything?
Seriously.
She's exactly 5 months pregnant, give or take, and she already has everything. And it's not hand-me-downs, either. Oh, she's got older kids. Two to be exact. A boy and a girl. So, you'd think she would use what she could from the first two, right?
Wrong.
She has gone out and bought all new stuff. Nothing old for this baby. And, to top it all off, she's having another shower!
Another shower!
WTH?
What do you get a person like that? I suppose something useful that a mother always runs out of? Maybe some diapers? But, what if I get the wrong kind? I hate to waste the money on something she won't use because it's not the right kind. Maybe some onesies? I always used them when my kids were babies. I never had enough. That could work. Maybe something personal like monogrammed baby gifts of some sort?
This might be the way to do.
Something in the mint green she's buying everything in. Something with the baby's name on it, since she already knows what it's going to be. Talk about organized!
Yeah, I like this.
I think this is what I will do.
