Makes Me Wonder

Today at work, I had to listen to a call from a customer in New York. You know, I don't want to sound like I'm stereotyping anyone, but this call kind of fit in with what I have heard about New Yorkers.

They aren't very nice people.

Now, don't get me wrong. I really have no idea. I've never been there. The only thing I have to base this on is what I've heard and the call I listened to today. The lady that called in with problems with her Internet connection was rude from the get-go. Maybe she was just frustrated by not having an Internet connection. Maybe her children pissed her off. I don't know, but right off the bat, she was rude to the agent who answered her call and was only there to help her.

To top it off, the lady's husband came into the room and started to argue with her about something. Something that had nothing to do with her Internet connection. He was yelling at her and she was yelling at him. In between, the poor agent was trying to help her get back online. It was chaos.

Seriously.

My thought was that this lady needed some anger management. Or maybe they both needed some relationship coaching New York style. It was really distracting having to listen to them when I was supposed to be grading the agent. The duo totally overshadowed the poor guy.

In the end, I gave the agent a good mark. Mainly for being so patient. I mean, the call took twice as long as it should have, what with having to wait for her to get done yelling at her husband to listen to him. He did get her back online without so much as a "thank you" from the customer. I'm sure when the call was over, he was probably the most thankful he had ever been in his job.

Thinking About the Future

OMG! Today, I was thinking about Tristan leaving for college next week. You know, being all sad and depressed-like because my baby is leaving me. Anyway, out of no where, a scary thought popped into my head ( I know. That in itself is scary that a thought would actually want to be in there, but I digress.)

I thought (to myself, of course), "What am I going to do when all the kids are gone? I'm going to have to spend time alone.......with their father!"

This may sound like a nice thing when the kids are always underfoot. What couple doesn't dream of just a few hours alone together (a few days? weeks?) to reconnect and pretend that they aren't parents? I know I have had a thought or two over the years like this. But every day?

What will we do? What will we talk about? Do we have a solid enough relationship to hang together without the children as glue? I have to be honest, the thought is a bit terrifying to me. I know couples go through this all the time. We aren't the first, and of course, we have a few years before that happens, but maybe we need to start preparing.

Maybe some relationship coaching can help? I'm willing to try anything to ensure that Mike doesn't get bored of me, or worse yet, that I don't get bored of him. I mean, we're going to be all alone in this house with no kids to wait on, or yell at. As good as that sounds, I'm going to be lost. Who will I mother? Mike? Will he let me?

Oh for the love of Pete! That is ridiculous!

And, who will he yell at and guide ever so firmly and loudly in the right direction? Me? I can't imagine.

If anyone is going to be in the Springfield, NJ area on September 9th, stop in at Barnes and Noble for the "Commitment vs. Complacency" discussion. It's part of the Heart vs. Mind series given by R.A. Leslie, a motivational speaker and life coach. It should prove to be very powerful and provocative!

Sometimes Life is Like That

Whew! It's been a while, I guess. I don't know where the time goes, but it sure goes fast. Summer is almost over, and I feel as if I've slept through most of it. It all seems a blur. Sad too, because Tristan leaves in the Fall for college....out of state. I really thought I'd spend more time with him this summer, but it hasn't happened yet. You know, the whole "I'm an adult now, and can come and go as I please." I swear, he goes more than he comes. I guess that's normal though, huh?

I just found out that a good friend of mine is going through some marriage difficulties. Funny, because for one, we're good friends and I didn't even have a clue, and two, because they are the perfect couple. You know the kind. They are the ones that make you want to puke when you see them in public hanging all over each other and smooching all the time. I was totally floored, to be honest. Turns out they don't see eye to eye on most subjects. Go figure. I guess some people are just full of surprises. Or just full of it. I'm not sure which. They'll be going for relationship coaching to see if they can find a way to agree. I have to hand it to them. At least they're going to try.

Let's see, what else?

Oh, we had Tristan's graduation party this past weekend. Have to say, the party was great, but the turnout was pitiful. Mike grilled all morning long, and I slaved in the kitchen all morning. We bought enough soda to quench the thirst of an army of teenagers. We set up chairs, tables, and decorations. It was beautiful. And, it was all over by 6pm. Everyone left, and no one else showed up after that. I didn't even need to turn on my strands of lighted decorations. It was very disappointing. On the flip side, Tristan did make out pretty well in the gift/money department from the guests that did show up, so it wasn't all bad. He'll have about $400 more to add to his bank account for college and some much needed necessities for his dorm room. I tell ya, I'm glad this kind of thing doesn't happen every day!

So, that's it for now. I've been busy, busy, busy, but really would like to get back to this whole blogging thing. It's kind of therapeutic, ya know?
