Getting out of the car today at the store, Mike starts limping. For no reason, mind you. Just started limping. I asked him what was wrong, to which he replied, "I don't know. It just hurts." I roll my eyes and walk on ahead of him, hoping no one would know he was with me.
Later, his limp turns into something out of the "Hunchback of Notre Dame". More of a step and drag type of thing. Again, I ask him what in the world he did to cause such pain. He says, "I think my leg has a concussion." Ahhh....that explains a lot. I think his brain has a concussion. I fake a look of concern.
When he decides it's time to go to bed, he literally falls off the couch, pulls himself into a semi-standing position, and attempts to walk/hobble to the bathroom. By this time, I might be having a touch of sympathy for the guy, but only after I laugh at the way he "walks" down the hall. When he comes out of the bathroom, after moaning and groaning the whole while he was in there, I do help him to the bedroom where he tells me, "I think I sprained a bone." I laugh at this. He gives me a dirty look.
I tell him he didn't sprain a bone, and his leg doesn't have a concussion. I think it's a pulled groin muscle, and he'll just have to live with it until it heals. "Oh, I've never had pain like this!" he says. As I kiss him goodnight and turn to walk out the door, he reminds me, "Don't forget to set the alarm for 3am in the morning. I have to be on the lake before sun up because that's when the fishing derby begins."
Uh-uh.......he's convinced he's dying, or at the least never going to walk again, but there's nothing going to stop him from fishing.

Men!
What the heck is wrong with them? Are they really that insensitive to others? Are they really that self-centered?
Here is the conversation that took place this morning between 3am and 5am between me and Mike.
The alarm goes off at 3am. It's on my side of the bed because he never hears it.
Me: "Honey, it's time to get up."
Mike: "Grumble, grumble, grumble."
I get out of bed to go make him a lunch while he's supposed to be getting up and dressing.
At this point, I've been up for about 15 minutes, and am pretty awake. He hasn't come out of the bedroom yet. So, I go back in there.
Me: "HONEY! It's time to get up. You're going to be late."
Mike: "I'm tired. I'll go in an hour late. Reset the alarm for 4am."
Now, this ticks me off because by this point I'm awake, but still tired. I usually go back to bed after he leaves and enjoy a couple of hours of peaceful, quiet, snore free sleep. I really look forward to this sleep. Now that I'm awake, and he's still home, snoring, I won't be able to get back to sleep.
I angrily get back into bed, snatching the blankets away from him (he's already started to snore again), and reset the alarm.
The alarm rings again at 4am.
Me: "Honey, get up. It's time for work."
Mike: "I'm still tired. Reset it for 5am."
Me: "WHAT?! You've got to be kidding. I'm tired too, and I can't sleep with you snoring like that! You need to decide the night before what time you're going to get up."
Mike: "So what if you're tired. You don't have to work."
So in other words, I don't matter, and because I don't have to physically go to work, it doesn't matter that I don't get enough sleep. Because you know, the magical fairies come during the day while he's at work and clean my house, and do my laundry, and take care of the kids, and the bills, and whatever else needs handled.
I reset the alarm again. He's snoring again.
The alarm goes off at 5am. I smack him.
Me: "Get up!"
Mike: "There! I'm getting out of YOUR bedroom."
Me: "It's about damned time, since I have to get up with the kids in a little while."
Mike: "I'm going to work."
Me: "Bye."
The thing that gets me, and this isn't the first time, he doesn't think that what I do is important. He doesn't care that he snores like a freight train and I get two hours of sleep tops each night, and that I really look forward to that couple of hours after he leaves for work. He also forgets that I don't have to get up at 3am with him to make his stupid lunch. He could make his own.
Sometimes I feel so taken for granted.
