Tristan decided he wanted to do something different for his girlfriend for Valentines Day. Oh, he (we) bought her some flowers and a stuffed teddy bear, but he wanted to do something spectacular. Something none of the other guys were doing for their girlfriends.
He decided on cooking spaghetti and meatballs from scratch with all the fixings. He planned it for Saturday. Of course, that meant that I would have to stay home, coach him through the cooking process, and babysit the two teenage lovers for the rest of the night.
The spaghetti sauce turned out delicious, and the meatballs were some of the best I've ever tasted. Apparently, he has a knack for cooking. He made a salad and toasted garlic bread to boot. He even baked a heart-shaped cake (her favorite flavor), and decorated it using a sandwich bag with a corner cut off so he could write with it. That was his idea since I have no cake decorating stuff in the house. I was impressed!
When it came time for his girlfriend to come over, he put the teddy bear in the middle of the table holding the bouquet of flowers, complete with a card that played "I Can't Fight This Feeling" when opened.
Needless to say, she was very moved by his thoughtfulness and almost cried when he showed her everything he had done. I was proud of my son for being so thoughtful, and all on his own! He may only be fifteen, but at least he's been listening to his mom and learning how to treat a woman right.
Ah, young love.....to be young again.
