For The Love of Family

I just recently got back in touch with my Aunt Donna. She's my dad's one and only sibling, and we've always been close. While she lives in Colorado, and I in Wisconsin, we've always shared a friendship beyond the normal aunt/niece relationship. We like the same things, books, movies, a love of writing. Our sense of humor is so similar, you'd swear we were sharing the same brain sometimes! She has twenty years on me, but that never seemed to matter.

I can remember taking our annual family vacations to Colorado to visit my grandparents and Aunt Donna. We'd drive out, spend a week, and drive back. That week spent with them every summer is time I looked forward to and will always cherish.

My aunt and I used to lay awake at night, talking, joking, and laughing so much my sides hurt in the morning. We'd laugh so loud that others in the house would yell at us to be quiet. We'd listen to songs by Michael Jackson (back when he actually looked like Michael Jackson), and just be silly. It was a great time in my childhood.

Now, as an adult my Aunt Donna is still here. We're more than just an aunt and her niece. We're friends. We could still spend hours talking and laughing. That, I don't think will ever change. I still look forward to talking with her. Although we don't see each other at all anymore, the closeness is still there.

So Aunt Donna, if you're reading this, here's to you........Pickle Nose!
