Three Is Definitely Enough

My best friend of almost twenty years just left. She stopped over after work today with her three year old son, Noah. I used to babysit for Noah when he was newborn up until he was a year old. I love this child.

Having said that, I was having a hard time handling the noise level in my home. I had forgotten just how loud, and active, a child that age can be! I don't think he stopped for more than three seconds at any one time. He ran through my house like a tornado, leaving a path of destruction and chaos behind.

His 'activeness' prompted 'activeness' in my children, and before I knew it, all three of them were running, screaming, and jumping from one end of the house to the other. The were literally bouncing off the walls, at one point knocking a picture from its perch in the hallway.

Do you know a three year old does for fun? He says, "Auntie Shawn! Auntie Shawn! What's that for?" "Auntie Shawn! Auntie Shawn! Why did the dog do that?" "Auntie Shawn! Auntie Shawn! Hold this." I was most popular tonight.

They just left a few minutes ago, and I can now finish watching American Idol, secure in the fact that I know he'll be back next Monday for a fun-filled afternoon and evening of babysitting.

All of this makes me thankful for my husband's vasectomy.

LOL!! I so know what you mean except I can't send anyone home -- they are home! I have a 9 month old, 3, 4 and 16. One is laughing and screaming, one is running and screaming, one is chasing and screaming, and the last is screaming at all the screamers while singing to drown out the screaming! SIGH! Thank God for daycare, naps and all-day schooling! :-)
