I think this is just totally awesome! New Year's Eve has got to be one of the biggest money making nights of the year for bars, but a local bar in Belgium, Wisconsin will not serve liquor on Monday night. Instead, they will be hosting a party for teens 14 and older which includes indoor volleyball, darts, pool, and a Wii game.
Bic's Place owner Claire Bichler came up with the idea last year to celebrate her daughter's 16th birthday. More than 50 teens showed up for that party. Parents aren't complaining. They are happy to know where their kids are and that they aren't drinking.
She had to get the idea ok'ed by the village board, but that wasn't a problem. They passed it last year and this year.
What a great idea! I'm so very against drinking and driving. I dread New Year's Eve every year because it never fails. The next day there are sure to be stories on the news of horrific wrecks and death caused by drinking and driving. I'm scared to be on the road later in the evening on New Year's Eve. I always wonder how many of the cars we've passed are being driven by a drunk driver.
I want to say "Thank you" to this wonderful woman! For her to take a stand against teenage drinking and driving shows just what a warm and caring person she is. I don't know her personally, but my hat is off to her!
