Dueling Mattress Pad

My mother brought me a heated mattress pad this past weekend for our bed. She had an extra one that she said didn't get as warm as she'd like it to, so she said I could have it.

I changed all the bedclothes, washed everything, and put the new pad on the bed. It has dual controls so I can be as warm as I'd like, and Mike can be as warm as he'd like. We were all set!

About an hour before we were to go to bed, I went in and turned both controls on to a setting of five, so the bed could get warm before we got in it. Mike went to bed first, and apparently thought his side was too cold, so he turned his side up. When I went to bed, I thought my side was a bit too hot, so I turned mine down and went to sleep.

A couple of hours later, I woke up sweating so I turned mine down to low. Some time during the night, Mike turned his up yet again. He poked me and said, "I can see why your mom got rid of this thing. It doesn't work very well."

"I don't know what you're talking about," I said. "My mom must be crazy. My side is too hot!"

He stuck his leg out to feel my side. "Your side is a lot warmer than my side," he said.

He pulled the blanket up over his head and went back to sleep. I threw my blankets off and tried to go back to sleep.

In the morning, Mike has to get up for work before I need to get up, so he turned his side off before leaving. Imagine what I found out after he had been gone for about a half hour?

His side of the bed stayed warm, but my side turned ice cold! When I put the pad on the bed, I switched the controls around, and we were controlling the other's side of the bed!!! He was unknowingly cooking me on my side, and I was mistakenly freezing him out on his side! The colder he got, the hotter I got. It was a vicious cycle.

I sat up in bed and just laughed!

When I told Mike about my mistake, he just shook his head and laughed.

First thing I did yesterday morning was change the controls around. I slept much better last night, and I believe he did too!
