I just read a news story about a man who is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault against his stepson. Now, when I first read the headline I was disgusted.......until I read the story that followed.
Apparently, this man's 18 year old stepson was arrested on January 2nd on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault against the man's 8 year old daughter. The father allegedly caught his teenage stepson assaulting his daughter.
The teen's mother posted bond, and when he called home, his stepfather went to pick him up. Instead of taking him home, he drove him to an abandoned house, beat him with a baseball bat, and sodomized him with a metal tool to avenge the rape of his daughter.
The father is now facing charges, and a spokesperson for the police calls the case "unique", and says that no one can take the law into their own hands.
I'm having a hard time with this story. While I know you can't take the law into your own hands, I'm not sure I'd have the presence of mind to not want to take the law into my own hands. I mean, whenever I've heard stories like this I've always half-seriously said, "Lord help anyone that does something like this to any of my children."
I understand this father did wrong, but can anyone really blame him? Aggravated sexual assault involves some sort of force or threat in order to carry out the crime. What if the father had done something about it at the time he actually caught his teenage stepson in the act? Would that be considered defending someone that couldn't defend themselves? Would he have been charged with a crime then?
I'm a firm believer in the adage "An eye for an eye". This criminal got a taste of what it had to be like for that young, 8 year old girl. He got to feel, first-hand, how scared that little girl must have been.
Was it right? I don't think I can answer that because I don't know that I wouldn't want revenge if this happened to one of my children.
Will this young man, who is only 18 years old and has his whole life in front of him, think twice before touching another child? Probably. And hopefully it will be enough to scare him straight.
What Do You Think?

Wow! That's a tough one. I think I have to agree with you on this one. I don't know if I would have went as far as that father (wouldn't have the nerve), but I think I would have given him a good beating! Gosh, that's just awful!
in a way, i agree but, i also go with the old adage...two wrongs don't make a right. perhaps, justice would have been served...but, i am with petula...a good beating would have probably sufficed. then...throw his butt in jail!!!
