We were in the car today coming back from Timothy's last wrestling tournament. We took a detour through a state park on the south end of Lake Winnebago. With all the rain and snow melt the last couple of weeks, the rivers are really high right now. This is a look into the thought process of an eight year old.
Timothy: Mom, who dug the rivers?
Me: No one dug the rivers. They are just there.
Timothy: No, I mean, who dug them many, many years ago?
Me: No one dug the rivers. They are natural. They've always been there.
Timothy: Did God dig the rivers?
Me: Well, I suppose He did.
Timothy: Was God born from Jesus?
Me: No, Jesus is God's son. God was there first.
Timothy: Oh. So Jesus is just there to help God out if he needs it?
Me: If he's a good son, he does.
We're trying to instill in Timothy good work ethics, which he's not taking a liking to at all. He will throw fits and complain when asked to do anything, and trying to get him to even put his own dishes in the sink involves at least 15 minutes of arguing back and forth. So, seeing my opportunity, I got a plug in there for working hard and being good. The conversation ended there.
I wonder if the fear of God will get him to put his dishes in the sink without complaint?
