What To Do When The Electric Is Out

We had some severe storms come through our area this afternoon, leaving us without power for about five hours. You know, you don't realize how much you take electricity for granted until you don't have it for an extended period of time.

The kids didn't know what to do with themselves. At one point, Timothy said, "I'm going to go watch a movie!"

I asked, "How are you going to do that?"

"I have a DVD player. Remember?" he said.

He realized we couldn't watch cable because the electric was out, but didn't make the connection with the DVD player. You could see the disappointment in his face when he realized that he couldn't use the DVD player either.

Then, the kids decided to play Charades. What a funny spectacle to watch. Instead of the usual movie or TV show category, they used silly words. Listening to them guess each other's Charade was priceless. I think Tristan's "bee's knees" one was the best. He pretended to fly around like a bee and "stung" everyone with his rear end. Then he'd point to his knees. You can't get that kind of entertainment on television!

Gladly/Sadly, the electric finally came back on at around 8:30 tonight. Everyone went back to what they normally do. Me, on the computer. Mike, in front of the TV, and the kids playing various video games or computer games.

It was fun while it lasted!
