Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of back pain? Actually, it's more of a pain in the butt, extending down my right leg and into my toes, making them numb.
I've been dealing with this pain for almost a month now. It's not getting any better. This past Saturday night, it got so bad that I had Mike take me into the ER, just so I could get some relief and some sleep. They told me that I probably have a slipped disk that is pressing on nerves. All they did for me was give me a shot of painkiller and muscle relaxer and sent me home. I do have a prescription for some pain/muscle relaxer meds, and while they do help, they aren't fixing the problem.
You want to know the frustrating part? It wasn't like I was doing anything strenuous when it happened. I was cleaning the toilet, for goodness sakes! I stood up, and something ripped across my lower back. I've been down ever since.
So, for this reason, I haven't been able to post much because sitting at my computer makes my back hurt so bad. I think if it isn't somewhat better by the end of the week, I'm going to go back to the doc for some pictures. Who knows? Maybe I did something serious. I don't know.
I do know that I'm going to delegate the bathroom cleaning to one of my children from now on. They have young backs that can handle such chores as cleaning the toilet. *Sheesh!*

Oh, I feel your pain. Mine is more in my shoulder, but I feel it! All I did was bend down and pick up my laptop. YIKES!
Have you tried those heat patches? I cannot for the life of me think of the brand, but they have magnets in them and the heat helps. Or you could try salonpas. Little patches you can get at the drug store and are really cheap. I use those a lot for pain.
Also, yoga can help.

Yup, definitely a slipped disk. The pain your feeling is sciatica, caused by the burst disc pressing on the sciatic nerve. The symptoms with the pain going through the butt and down the back of the leg are typical.
This happens because although it is called a slipped disc it is actually the jelly filled pad between the disks that has burst or is leaking and that is pressing on the sciatic nerve, making it 'jangle'.
You must be very careful to not aggravate it even further, which is possible. Don't make any sudden bending or twisting movements as it's only too easy to do. 7 years ago I got the same thing from pulling up a bed head and suffered from sciatica for 4 months until one morning I turned to get a pair of knickers out of a drawer. Within an hour I could hardly move the pain was so bad. I was off work for 8 weeks and had 2 epidural injections in my back. The same thing happened to my mother in 1970 and she was still wearing a steel ribbed corset when she died a few years ago. I was on very strong painkillers for the first 3 or 4 years and even now still have to take them if I am walking far.
I hope I have not depressed you too much, it is certainly not my intention to do so. I just wanted to warn you, as a fellow sufferer, of what this darn thing is like and how careful you must be now that you have the initial weakness in your back. Just take care :-)
Reducing your tummy will go a very long way in easing out back pain...
Also just hang from a fixed rod or something for 20 seconds longer than comfortable... This helps a lot too...
Take long walks, and be super careful when you want to lift anything even remotely heavy
Serious back pain can be an excruciating experience... but with simple walking and a good healthy (vegetarian) diet can be very simple to recover from and not have again...
Get well quick!
Thank you all, for the helpful advice. Don't worry Charmainezoe, about depressing me. I can take it! LOL The thing is, I've been exercising and losing weight to bring my blood pressure down, and until this back thing happened, I was doing really well. As soon as it feels better, I'll get back on track again with the gym, and continue my weight loss. Hopefully, this won't happen again!
It is feeling a bit better this morning. Still very sore, but not excruciating as it has been for the last couple of weeks. Maybe I'm on the mend? Let's hope so!
