Makes Me Wonder

Today at work, I had to listen to a call from a customer in New York. You know, I don't want to sound like I'm stereotyping anyone, but this call kind of fit in with what I have heard about New Yorkers.

They aren't very nice people.

Now, don't get me wrong. I really have no idea. I've never been there. The only thing I have to base this on is what I've heard and the call I listened to today. The lady that called in with problems with her Internet connection was rude from the get-go. Maybe she was just frustrated by not having an Internet connection. Maybe her children pissed her off. I don't know, but right off the bat, she was rude to the agent who answered her call and was only there to help her.

To top it off, the lady's husband came into the room and started to argue with her about something. Something that had nothing to do with her Internet connection. He was yelling at her and she was yelling at him. In between, the poor agent was trying to help her get back online. It was chaos.

Seriously.

My thought was that this lady needed some anger management. Or maybe they both needed some relationship coaching New York style. It was really distracting having to listen to them when I was supposed to be grading the agent. The duo totally overshadowed the poor guy.

In the end, I gave the agent a good mark. Mainly for being so patient. I mean, the call took twice as long as it should have, what with having to wait for her to get done yelling at her husband to listen to him. He did get her back online without so much as a "thank you" from the customer. I'm sure when the call was over, he was probably the most thankful he had ever been in his job.
