American Idol: The First Cuts

I am please to say that I agree with America's vote tonight. Cutting Amy, Joanne, Garret, and Colton was right on the money. No surprises there. Out of the top 24, these four had the least talent. While they may be able to sing, I just don't hear anything out of any of them that would make me want to buy one of their albums.

They all took it like troopers, though. I do have to say that I think Simon was way out of line kicking Colton while he was down, so to speak. His comment about getting a job and singing for pleasure because he'll never make it as a professional was a real kick in the ass. I mean, really. The kid is only 18. It was just wrong to squash his dreams like that.

I always hate the results show, though. Even though I agree that these four should go, it's never fun to watch them tear up and get their hearts broke.

Is it just me, or does it seem like when they sing their exit song, they sing it better than when they sang it the night or two before? It's like, if they had sung it that good when they were needing votes maybe they wouldn't be standing in the middle of the stage singing their last song on AI?

On another note, what about Paula's video? I used to listen to her 20-odd years ago, and I loved watching her videos on MTV. She could dance! I thought the song was pretty good, but obviously technically enhanced. She didn't do as much dancing as she used to do in her videos, but then again, she is 20 years older. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good video. Tristan (my teenager) thought it was pretty good, too. Not too shabby for 46!
