Bonus! A Tadpole

Before our fishing trip today, Mike and the kids went to the bait shop for some minnows. When they got home, Rebecca came running into the house yelling, "I got a tadpole! I got a tadpole!"

"Where did you get a tadpole?" I asked, not at all enthused.

"The lady at the bait shop gave it to me." she beamed.

"It got scooped in with the minnows, and she thought the kids would like it," Mike said looking guilty.

I looked into the minnow bucket, and there's a tadpole, already at least two inches long swimming with the bait.

"What in the world am I going to do with a tadpole?" I asked, annoyed.

"We can put it in the fish tank!" Rebecca said.

OK, we could put it in the fish tank. But don't tadpoles eventually need to be able to get out of the water?

I tried explaining this to Rebecca in the hopes that she would agree to let him go. But to my dismay, she didn't.

"We could just leave him in there for now, and then buy him a different tank with a way to get out of the water." she said.

Rolling my eyes, and wishing bad things upon the lady at the bait shop, I say, "Let's just go fishing and we'll decide what to do with him when we get back."

So, the tadpole goes with us on our fishing trip. I was hoping he would accidentally jump out of the bucket, but it was only wishful thinking. The tadpole came back home with us and is currently 'swimming with the fishes' in the tank with Bob, Rebecca's female guppy.

That reminds that I caught a lot of tadpoles in my childhood days and put in the bucket. But before I left for home, I put back all in the river!

And it went on - caught them with our palms and put them back.

Guess it thrills the young ones!

Thanks for sharing the story - it brings back such sweet memories!

LOL!! Although I haven't had that experience; I don't know how you feel. It is such a bummer when well-meaning people send your children home with something you don't want to have to deal with!

Good luck! ... uh, have fun with the tadpole!
